The projected impacts of the EU-Mercosur trade agreement

On Thursday the 22nd of June, high level executives from Spanish, French and Greek companies participated in the first European investment forum that was held in Montevideo, Uruguay.  During the reunion, leaders from different backgrounds expressed their hopes for a free trade agreement between the EU and the Mercosur bloc. “The agreement could highly benefit European businesses and thus give them easier access to the whole region” state Gonzalo Sola, head of projects development at the Spanish company “Alpein Ingenieros”.

As for the Greek elevator manufacturer “Kleeman”: “our interest in expanding our operations to Latin America and establishing a base on Uruguayan soil is positively correlated with the EU-Mercosur Trade agreement.”  the company’s director of new business said.

“The French cosmetics company « Onérique » was notably impressed by Uruguay’s remarkable innovation initiatives in terms of wind power production and the country’s sensitivity towards environmental concerns.” Said Glorimar Primera-Riedweg, director of Onérique.

Over 700 company representatives, along with European and Latin American government officials had participated in the forum at Montevideo. The forum was highly focused on certain industries where Uruguay offers attractive returns on investment, including infrastructure, energy, agribusiness, and global services.
